Rocky Spikes Youth Volleyball Club (RSVC) aims to provide a safe, respectful, inclusive, and development-focused environment where athletes can learn, improve, and enjoy volleyball.

This guide explains the expectations that help athletes, coaches, families, and teammates contribute to a positive training environment.

Purpose

Player expectations are intended to support athlete development, safety, respectful relationships, effective coaching, and a positive experience for everyone involved in RSVC activities.

Expectations may be applied in a manner appropriate to the athlete's age, developmental stage, program, and circumstances.

Attendance

Consistent attendance supports skill development, team continuity, and effective coaching. Athletes should attend scheduled sessions whenever reasonably possible.

Families are encouraged to notify RSVC in advance when an athlete will be absent, significantly delayed, or required to leave early.

Punctuality

Athletes should arrive with enough time to prepare safely and be ready to participate when the session begins.

Prompt arrival also helps coaches organize warm-ups, groupings, drills, and training activities without unnecessary disruption.

Respect & Inclusion

Athletes are expected to treat teammates, coaches, volunteers, officials, opponents, facility staff, families, and other participants with dignity, fairness, and respect.

  • Use respectful and appropriate language.
  • Support an inclusive and welcoming training environment.
  • Avoid bullying, harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or retaliation.
  • Respect personal boundaries, individual differences, and shared spaces.

Effort & Participation

Athletes are encouraged to participate actively, make a reasonable effort, listen to coaching instruction, and approach training with a willingness to learn.

Mistakes are a normal part of athlete development. Players should remain engaged, ask appropriate questions, and support teammates during drills, games, and learning activities.

Communication

Athletes should communicate respectfully with coaches and teammates and raise questions or concerns at an appropriate time.

Families should inform RSVC of relevant absences, injuries, health or safety concerns, accessibility needs, or other circumstances that may reasonably affect safe participation.

Equipment & Clothing

Athletes should arrive prepared with clean indoor athletic shoes, comfortable athletic clothing, and a water bottle. Knee pads are recommended where appropriate.

Any required team uniform or event-specific apparel will be communicated separately. Optional RSVC apparel is not required for normal participation unless a specific program or event states otherwise.

Sportsmanship

Athletes should demonstrate good sportsmanship during training, competition, evaluations, events, and other RSVC activities.

  • Respect decisions made by coaches and officials.
  • Celebrate success without disrespecting others.
  • Respond appropriately to mistakes, setbacks, or disagreement.
  • Represent RSVC respectfully when participating in club activities.

Behaviour During Training & Events

Athletes should follow reasonable directions from coaches, authorized RSVC personnel, officials, and facility staff.

  • Use volleyball and facility equipment appropriately.
  • Respect gym property, change areas, and shared spaces.
  • Avoid unsafe, disruptive, or deliberately distracting behaviour.
  • Remain within designated activity areas unless permission is given.
  • Report hazards, damaged equipment, injuries, or serious safety concerns promptly.

Parent & Guardian Support

Parents and guardians play an important role in supporting attendance, preparation, positive communication, and respectful behaviour.

Families are encouraged to support athlete development without placing unnecessary pressure on athletes, coaches, teammates, officials, or other participants.

Health & Safety Awareness

Athletes should promptly report an injury, illness, suspected concussion, unsafe condition, or other significant safety concern to a coach or authorized RSVC representative.

Parents and guardians remain responsible for providing accurate and reasonably current information about medical conditions, injuries, allergies, emergency contacts, accessibility needs, or other circumstances that may affect safe participation.

Immediate safety concern: If there is an immediate threat to safety or a medical emergency, emergency services or the appropriate authority should be contacted first.

Final Statement

These expectations are intended to help create a volleyball environment where athletes can develop skills, confidence, teamwork, responsibility, and enjoyment of the sport.

Serious or repeated conduct concerns may be addressed in accordance with applicable RSVC policies, program requirements, facility rules, Safe Sport processes, or governing-body requirements.
